From Goodreads:
THE BLAST...

A worldwide snowstorm that brings with it a terminal virus.

THE DEAD...

Rise!
But something deep within hasn't died. The thing they loved most when alive still burns bright, at odds with a predacious hunger they can't control or understand.

GEOFF AND AMANDA...

Have survived The Blast. The bad news: 650 miles of treacherous, zombie infested road separates them.

And time is running out for Amanda!
First off lets get the technicalities out of the way. I won this book through Goodreads Read it First. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them.

That being said here is my review:

When I saw this book on my Goodreads recommendations list and that it had a giveaway I immediately entered. It is no secret that I love Zombies, and this one looked unique in that the Zombies still had a bit of consciousness left to them.

The book heavily focuses on a female named Amanda and her relationship with Geoff. Amanda is for all intents and purposes a selfish witch. Bored with her relationship to Geoff,She has an affair behind his back, dumps him and then claims she's moving away to go to College. I loathed the character and was just biding my time til she ate it. Even when the Author presents more of her back story, it did nothing to win me over.

The other main character of the book Geoff frustrated me til no end. I couldn't figure out why he'd go to such great lengths to rescue a woman who couldn't even bother to answer his texts, or phone calls for weeks on end. When stuff really starts to fall apart and she finally decides to contact him, rather then telling her off, he rides off like a knight in shining armor to save her. While the character was certainly well written, like Amanda I wanted him to die, rather then root for the character til the end.

My favorite Character had to be Cassandra, I felt so much sympathy for her sad existence. A Mistress to a snake of a man named Joe, She lived it seemed only to please him. When Joe reanimates and attacks her, rather then continuing feeding he lets her "live" so that she can be his bullet sponge and keep him company while he tries to make it back to his wife. By the end I was rooting for her and pretty much only her.

The other couple characters along the way helped move the story along nicely and had enough back story that they didn't feel like plot filler. The Zombies were certainly my favorite part. Sure they were for all intents and purposes Dead but some conscious thought remained and that was fascinating to read. So many books focus on the Humans perspective, I found seeing both just a nice change of pace.

Overall I do recommend, if you like Zombies to read this book. I feel Peter Giglio will be an Author to watch out for in the future. He blended the creepiness of Stephen King and the Undead Lore of George Romero together perfectly. I Truly hope the Author decides to revisit the world. It would be interesting to see how things changed 6months, or a year down the road. I'm going to give this book 4 ★★★★.

    1. I just have no patience for needy characters, and thats exactly how at least I perceived Geoff. Amanda on the other hand lying ho ho. That to me made her immediately unlikeable, that by the time she was in real danger I really didnt give to shakes if she lived or died.

  3. Not a total zombie fan, but seems like zombie fans have really taken to the hollywood movies. Bet this book will be popular with them!

    1. Probably, especially with such diverse character types. Give the crowd survivors they can love and hate.
