When she sings it, she unlocks a terrible secret: She is a Chantress, a spell-singer, brought to the island not by shipwreck but by a desperate enchantment gone wrong.

Her song lands her back in England — and in mortal peril, for the kingdom lies in the cruel grasp of a powerful Lord Protector and his mind-reading hunters, the Shadowgrims. The Protector has killed all Chantresses, for they alone can destroy the Shadowgrims. Only Lucy has survived.

In 2015, a race of alien Others conquered Earth. They enslaved humanity not by force, but through an aggressive mind control that turned people into contented, unquestioning robots.

Except sixteen-year-old Althea isn’t content at all, and she doesn’t need the mysterious note inside her locket to tell her she’s Something Else. It also warns her to trust no one, so she hides the pieces that make her different, even though it means being alone.

The autumn she meets Lucas, everything changes.

Althea and Lucas are immune to the alien mind control, and together they search for the reason why. What they uncover is a stunning truth the Others never anticipated, one with the potential to free the brainwashed human race.

It’s not who they are that makes them special, but what.

And what they are is a threat. One the O…

Zurvival Saturday (24)

Image
For this weeks Zurvival Saturday I wanted to talk about getting sick during a Zombie Apocalypse. Getting sick under the best of circumstances is hard enough but what happens when the undead are numerous and stock piles have dwindled?

In the event an Apocalypse of Zombie proportions happens the essentials will be the first things stripped from grocery stores and Hospitals and it's not always going to be easy to make supply runs to those destinations once pickings start to slim. The items I am going to share should be in plenty of pantries and quite easy to scavenge.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar- Ah how I love ACV it has so many uses, stores an incredibly long time and best of all it is dirt cheap for a big bottle. For colds mix around a tablespoon with hot water and drink up. If your lucky enough to have some honey or lemon available mix that in for extra benefit and taste!!

2. Garlic- Look for Garlic pills first but if you can't find them either cloves or chopped works fine. Take…

Waiting On Wednesday (24)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly blog post hosted by Breaking The Spine. For this week's Waiting On Wednesday I chose *drumroll* Incarnation by Emma Cornwall.

Expected Publication:September 18,2012In the steampunk world of Victorian London, a beautiful vampire seeks out the author of Dracula–to set the record straight . . . If one is to believe Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale, Lucy Weston is Dracula’s most wanton creation, a sexual creature of the night who preys on innocent boys. But the real-life Lucy is nothing like her fictional counterpart—and she demands to know why the Victorian author deliberately lied. With Stoker’s reluctant help, she’s determined to track down the very fiend who transformed her—from the sensual underworld where humans vie to become vampires, to a hidden cell beneath a temple to madness, and finally into the glittering Crystal Palace where death reigns supreme.

Haunted by fragmentary memories of her lost life and love, Lucy must battle her thirst fo…

It wants the truth.

Book To Movie Monday (18)

Image
For this weeks Book to Movie Monday I have decided to cover the Book To Movie conversion of The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers.

First Let's Discuss The Book. Below Is The Cover:

Now for a little back story in case some of you aren't familiar with the Novel. The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers is the second installment in J.R.R. Tolkien's series The Lord Of The Rings and was released November 11,1954 by George Allen and Unwin. The Two Towers actually have names they are Orthanc and Minas Morgul. Tolkien was not happy with the title but was under deadline to create one.

Let's look at some of the characters now shall we.

Main Protagonists

Frodo Baggins- Frodo has heroism thrust upon him when he decides to take on the task of destroying the one ring. He isn't overly brave or bold but his goodness and readiness to trust others make him an undeniably likable character.

Samwise Gamgee- Frodo's loyal servant. While Frodo treats Sam like a friend, Sam has a hard …

What is normal?

Frieda has never felt normal. She feels every emotion too strongly and lashes out at herself in punishment. But one day when she stays home from work too depressed to get out of bed, a virus breaks out turning her neighbors into flesh-eating, brain-hungry zombies. As her survival instinct kicks in keeping her safe from the zombies, Frieda can’t help but wonder if she now counts as healthy and normal, or is she still abnormal compared to every other human being who is craving brains?

I received this book for review from the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them.

Review:

Waiting For Daybreak follows a young woman named Frieda as she struggles living during a Zombie Apocalypse.

The Good

Jamie Asks: What was the most emotional read you have ever had?
Through the years I've read many books, some that have even made me cry but the only book I can recall sobbing to is Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. Dumbledores death was a huge shock and I remember being gutted when it happened.

"Albus Dumbledore was never proud or vain; he could find something to value in anyone, however apparently insignificant or wretched, and I believe that his early losses endowed him with great humanity and sympathy. I shall miss his friendship more than I can say, but my loss is as nothing compared to the wizarding world's. That he was the most inspiring and the best loved of all Hogwarts headmasters cannot be in question."
—Elphias Doge in Dumbledore's obituary.

As for non Harry Potter books that have made me cry and have stuck with me because of that they would be:

The Velveteen Rabbit
The Road
Zoya
The Devil's Arithmetic

Sure I've cried at other …
