Silver Knight

When seventeen-year-old Diana recognizes an elderly priest in a video on YouTube, she realizes that reincarnation is real and that she’s been alive before! Every night in her dreams, she relives her past learning that it’s kill or be killed. Now a bishop at the Vatican whom she saved in another life calls on her once more. She is needed to help defeat evil within the catacombs of Rome. But when she arrives in Rome, she meets Alexander – the man of her dreams! Through the centuries she has loved him…betrayed him...been killed by him. Will she give him another chance or this time will she strike first?

I received this book to review from the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for them.

Review:

When I was asked to read Silver Knight my first thought was reincarnation eek. I've read a couple really great reincarnation books through the years but the majority have left me horribly confused or just fell flat of being anything spectacular. With some hesitation I decided to give Silver Knight a shot. Here are my thoughts:

Characters- Diana is a very likable character in that she is strong, independent and fierce but I also found her a bit naive and certainly blinded by love. Speaking of which we have Alexander Diana's on again, off again, demon lover. I enjoyed him but he was also a really big bastard to Diana and I just had a hard time believing someone would still want to be with them after all that. I mean he tried to kill her that's not usually something you forgive no matter how swoon worthy they might be. I also really enjoyed some of the bit characters Diana encounters in her past lives and hope to see a few of them pop up again even in flashbacks.

World Building- I loved being able to journey into the past with Diana. Caron Rider really put in some nice details from each time period and I found that to be quite a bonus. That being said while all the flashbacks were great and richly detailed I felt the present felt a bit flat in comparison. Wasn't bad, just not nearly as exciting to read about as those flashback scenes.

The Warriors Of Light- This is the group Diana belongs to. They keep the balance between Light and Darkness each member being reincarnated over and over to do so. Since the members are all intertwined I understand why we see so many different points of view but it just could of been packaged a bit better. At times I was left confused as to who we were following and in a way all the flashbacks and flashforwards slowed the pacing down as I had to keep going back and rereading paragraphs before moving on.

Flaws- The Author paints Alexander into this corner as being this hard-ass character that it really becomes hard to root for him by the end of the book. I also had to laugh at Diana's independence. Reincarnated Warrior or not she's still 17 and last I checked that meant Parents should be a bit more involved in things. I just didn't find it believable how little they seemed to care about her whereabouts. I also could of used less flashback scenes. The flashbacks felt a bit overwhelming at times and it brought the enjoyability of the book down a notch for me.

Final Thoughts
Overall Silver Knight was an action packed read with richly detailed narratives and enjoyable if at times a bit confusing character development. If you like History then I definitely think you will be able to appreciate Silver Knight as it has some very interesting perspectives on past events. `In the end I will be giving Silver Knight ★★★.
