The comedy This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

The film This is the End was one of 3 movies I knew I had to see this summer. First off, the film stars many of my favorite comedians and actors basically playing fictionalized versions of themselves. However, what really sold me on seeing the film as opposed to waiting for the DVD was a scene from the trailer where Emma Watson holding an axe steals from the group. If the 3 second clip of the scene had me laughing out loud I knew that the rest was probably comedy gold.

One of my favorite things about This is the End was the fact the film takes itself seriously. It would've been very easy for these actors to take the comedy elements and push it over the top but instead I liked that they played their roles as if they were really stuck in that house trying to survive the end of the world. Another thing I really enjoyed about the film was the story. I was genuinely surprised by how much thought went into it. I loved that James Franco and Seth Rogen had this bromance going on and the cameos of which there are many fit perfectly into each scene. It was also great getting to see a toned down Jonah Hill. He was still funny but it was more subtle than how he usually is.

Lastly, I have to say that the CGI in This is the End was great. Normally I'm a fan of practical effects but I definitely believe that you just couldn't make L.A. look that destroyed without including some form of CGI. Oh and the Demons were pretty bad ass as well especially Satan.

I think the only small downside to the film was the fact that the ending felt a bit rushed. It would've been nice having the group wander around Apocalyptic L.A. just a little bit longer before the final showdown. I also would've liked to see them run into just a few more of the party goers even if they were mainly used as demon fodder.

Overall, This is the End was a great film and one I'll definitely be buying come October. If you like a little comedy injected into your horror than I highly recommend picking this one up or going to see it in theaters if you can. Oh and I forgot to mention this film has a pretty sweet soundtrack as well. With that being said, I will be rating This is the End by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg ★★★★★.

    1. This is more say Shaun of the Dead horror than Nightmare on Elm Street. I hope you do get the chance to see it because it was great.

  2. Dude, I keep getting this one mixed up with The End of the World with Simon Pegg. :) Though, I do want to see both films. Glad this one is good...that it dares to take itself seriously when it's supposed to be all about the laughs. Also, I kind of have a little crush on Michael Cera, and I was just wondering what he was doing, so now I *have* to see this movie. :)
