Waiting On Wednesday (90) The Fall by Bethany Griffin

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly blog post hosted by Breaking The Spine where readers showcase which books they are highly anticipating. For this weeks Waiting on Wednesday, I chose The Fall by Bethany Griffin.

Expected Publication:
October 7, 2014 from Greenwillow Books

Madeline Usher is doomed.

She has spent her life fighting fate, and she thought she was succeeding. Until she woke up in a coffin.

Ushers die young. Ushers are cursed. Ushers can never leave their house, a house that haunts and is haunted, a house that almost seems to have a mind of its own. Madeline’s life—revealed through short bursts of memory—has hinged around her desperate plan to escape, to save herself and her brother. Her only chance lies in destroying the house.

In the end, can Madeline keep her own sanity and bring the house down?

Why Am I Waiting?
One of my favorite Edgar Allen Poe stories re-imagined into a young adult book? Count me in!
Simply put, this book sounds pretty awesome and I can't wait to see how this Author puts her own stamp on The Fall of the House of Usher!  Plus I have a morbid curiosity with any scene where a person wakes up in their own coffin, lol.  Imagine how awful it'd be. I imagine it being very much like the gif below.

  1. Great pick! I can't wait to read this one either, I'm a huge Poe fan and love retellings/adaptations so this is high on my list of books I want to read this year. I shall probably end up rereading House of Usher and The Fall together as part of my Halloween reading :)

  6. Oh yes, The Fall of the House of Usher is my favourite Poe story, as well!! I wasn't a huge fan of Bethany Griffin's other Poe-retelling, but I'm totally up for this one. I definitely also have a morbid curiosity about waking up in a coffin. Those scenes in Kill Bill and Buffy? Yikes.

  7. Definitely looks like a creepy one. I don't know this story well, but I look forward to seeing it reimagined as a YA story. I loved her take on The Masque of the Red Death.
