Booking Through Thursday (49) Bookcases
Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme where participants are asked a series of questions about their reading habits. To join this or future Booking Through Thursdays Click Here.
If I happen to spot a bookcase or even a pile of books on a counter you can bet I'll check them out. I've found many new books simply by spotting an interesting sounding title or a pretty cover on someones shelf. However, with the advent of E-readers and many people I know owning them, spotting physical books is becoming increasingly rare. That's not to say they aren't buying them but that their shelves have become much smaller being limited solely to the books they really loved. Personally, I find scrolling through peoples E-readers awkward and unless they offer it to me I don't do it. I guess in a way that makes me sad as I like to see what others are reading and being able to converse about them.
As for the second question, Does it shock me if they don't have one? When I was young, seeing bookcases in the living room of practically every place I visited my answer would be yes but as an adult, knowing how unlikely it is for people to read these days, I have to sadly answer no. Although the lack of a bookcase will never stop me from trying to get those people to read. The lack of a bookcase just means they haven't found the right book yet to start their collection.
This Week BTT Asks: When you visit a friend’s house, do you find time to browse their bookcases? Does it shock you if they don’t have one? |

Now for my questions:
Do you look at friends bookcases when you visit them?
Do you peek at their E-readers the same way or no??

I always perues other people shelves, I cant stop myself and I usually just stand there for a half an hour and browse. But I dont touch someones e-reader and most of my friends dont have them, in Croatia they are to expensive. Love your post :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know many people who do have bookcases. Although like you I do tend to get my friends to read by recommending, lending, or gifting them a book that I think they will enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI love perusing other people's bookshelves, but I honestly don't know all that many people who have them or even have books to display. But you bet your bottom dollar I'm going to explore them when I find them. :) Sadly, the only people IRL who read the same stuff as me are my sisters, so I never really find anything to borrow, lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't bother looking at other people's books. I used to because I like talking about books but when it gets to what I read, (paranormal, zombies, romance, YA) the judgement comes down so I just avoid it. lol
