Pyxis by KC Neal

This is my first book review and boy am I nervous. I won this book from a Blog Giveaway. It had previously been in my To-Read pile after seeing it on Goodreads so of course when I saw a giveaway to win a signed copy I just had to enter. Now onto the book....

Corinne lives an average teenage life working at her dad’s cafe, hanging out with her best friend, and trying to forget a falling-out with her almost-boyfriend Mason. Things take a strange turn when she uses her late grandmother’s food dyes for a bake sale, and her customers suddenly find her irresistibly alluring. Then she discovers she and Mason are haunted by the same dreams of a dark force that consumes everything in its path.

Pursued by shadowy figures and a crazy woman with secrets from the past, Corinne must find out who her grandmother really was. In her quest to unravel her family’s history, she learns she is destined to protect this world--and the dark world of her dreams. She races to find the answers she seeks before her nightmares break free.

The Book starts out in the small town of Tapestry. We first meet Corinne a 16 year old girl whose Grandmother has just passed away. She and her best friend Ang are prepping for a bake sale that Ang had coerced her into volunteering for. Corinne is the only one who baked homemade goods, Petit Four's to be exact. We learn very quickly that she has quite the talent for baking as her cakes sell better then the other tables. Soon after Corinne starts to notice people who never looked twice at her before start taking notice. At First she is flaterred until she realizes that maybe the extra ingredient from her Grandmothers box that she thought was flavoring is the real culprit. Now the two friends must combine their heads and figure how the box, her dead Grandmother and the Students weird behavior are all connected. Throw in a returning best Guy friend who Corinne harbors feelings for and we have ourselves a great First Book.

I really enjoyed this book. The pacing was perfect. The characters well written and easily fit into place in Corinnes world. I cannot wait to learn many things that book 1 left unanswered. I also really loved that while you do learn backstory the book was not bogged down with pages of information before actually starting the story as some books do. A great First read by Author KC Neal I am giving this book 4 ★★★★
