From Netgalley:
For the high schoolers of Greenhaven, Cass Rockham’s fall party is the social event of the year. Each October, students wait by theirmailboxes, praying for the gilt-edged invitation that grants entry into theinner circle of the most popular crowd. And now Cass has planned her finestparty yet, with a new sauna, a hot band, and no parents for miles. But to make this party really killer, Cass tops it all off with a sinister twist.

Nerdy Sarah Drew is shocked when she and her friends receive invitations to Cass’s affair. For years she’s steered clear of the popular kids, and now they want her to come to their party? Sarah is wary, but her friends talk her into coming with them. But she regrets it quickly, for at Cass Rockham’s mansion, the only party favor is death.

First off lets get the technicalities out of the way. I was given this book to review through Netgalley. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them.

That being said here is my review:

Sarah knew when she received the invitation in the mail that something wasn't right. Why would Cass the town's wealthiest and most popular girl invite her to a party, not just any party THE biggest party of the year. Receiving the Invitation was strange enough but then her friends all call saying they received one to. Worst of all they wanted to go and take Sarah with them. Sarah knew it was a bad idea, she knew she should stay home and by the end of the night she'll be wishing she had.

I read this book in just a few short hours. It was enjoyable from start to finish. It definitely reminded me of old school Christopher Pike or RL Stine. The Character of Sarah was my favorite. She knew it was a bad idea to go but went anyway to watch out for her friends. The story isn't unique but the characters memorable enough. I received an unproofed E-ARC so it was a little choppy in places. My only gripe I guess was the end. It just stopped and had no real ending. I don't know if this was because it was unproofed or if that is how it was intended to end. I do know however that it definitely felt unsatisfying.

As a young teen read I'd definitely recommend this book. It had a good mix of suspense and horror without being to scary. Would I personally read it again prob not but was it worth my time yes. Overall I'm giving this book 3 ★★★.

Comments

  1. I liked your review. It sounds like a very interesting book particularly the title is very intriguing. However, the fact that it has no real ending is sort of a concern, isn't it?
