Booking Through Thursday (21)

BTT Asks: Do you keep a list of the books you’ve read? How? In a journal? Through one of the online services? If so, WHY? To keep good records for future reference? To make sure you don’t accidentally reread? If not, why not? Too eager to move on to the next book? Too lazy? Never thought to bother?

Until a year ago I only kept a mental checklist of books that I've read and even then I'd still sometimes repurchase books on accident. When you read in the volume I do it is really hard keeping all the books straight. That all changed when I was introduced to Goodreads (I also use Librarything on occasion) and my book tracking world was changed forever. It is great being able to track what I've read and what I want to read. I never really thought about doing so until Goodreads and now its like How did I ever go without this, its the greatest thing ever!! Would of saved me so much hassle when tracking down books I needed in a series or remembering an Authors name so I could keep track of other books they released. I look back and think of all the years I'd have to play Book Cover charades and try to piece together who the Authors were or the title of the book was.

Anyway if you haven't checked out Goodreads yet I highly suggest doing so it really is a great site. I also use Pinterest and that is great as well as I just pin the books I want to respective boards.

Now for my questions, How do you keep track of books? Do you use Goodreads, Librarything or pinterest? Leave me an answer in the comments below, I love reading your responses!

  1. Goodreads...I've been hooked on this site worse than I ever was to FB ever since I stumbled upon it a couple of years ago. I don't really use Pinterest as much as I used to, and not for pinning books to my TBR or anything like that. I do follow some author boards, though. I've never tried Librarything or Shelfari, though. I think I spend enough time on Goodreads and blogs as it is. I'm actually thinking of creating a catalog of sorts for my bookshelves at home. That way I can keep track of which books I own that I haven't read yet. (There are a lot. :D)

    1. I think having an official catalog would be nice and you could even go further by putting barcodes in the books and that way if you loan one you could check it out of the collection and back in. Oh the possibilities.....

  2. I use Goodreads, too; I have a small list on Library Thing, but don't go there very often. It doesn't feel as user-friendly to me.

And then I have a special blog for my journey. Here's MY BTT POST

    1. I get exactly what you mean about Librarything. I do keep one because some Authors like reviews posted to it and love the Ebook option for Giveaways but besides that I stick mostly to Goodreads.

  3. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog!

I have yet to fully utilize my Goodreads account. I just can't find the time to enter all of my books. Oh well maybe someday.

  5. I keep a list on a page of my blog with a link on the sidebar. I've done it - with mixed results - since 2008.

    1. I suppose I do to a point with my reviews but since I don't "officially" review every book I read the list is missing a bunch.

  7. I started my blog to keep track, but when I discovered Goodreads, it was life changing. Literally. I love having a list of what I want to read more than anything. I started a list on LibraryThing but I've never used it. Goodreads is so much more user friendly. Pinterest is ok, but I don't use it for tracking books. I'll post reviews or giveaways there, to build some traffic, but it doesn't work for me for tracking.

  8. I use a combination of LibraryThing, GoodReads, and Pinterest. Before they came along I used a journal. I'm just happy to know that I'm not alone in my book-tracking obsession! My BTT is HERE.
