Zurvival Saturday (93) Short Story Recommendations
This week I want to recommend a couple of Zombie related short stories and novellas to you all. Lately I've been breezing through a bunch of short stories and novellas as little refreshing late night reads before bed rather than start a full length novel and stay up all night finishing it. While some of these stories will probably never turn into a series or standalone the others, well, here's hoping they do. All those mentioned below were rated 4 stars or above by me and ones I recommend reading.
In no particular order, here they are:
The Hospital by Keith C. Blackmore (Mountain Man 0.5)
"Mountain Man" Augustus Berry is a survivor in undead suburbia. He scavenges what he can from what's left over. He is very careful in what he does and where he goes, taking no chances, no unnecessary risks, and weighing every choice... until he decides to visit the hospital at the edge of town, and experiences terror the likes he's never encountered before.
Death Walk by Micah Ackerman
Scott is devastated when his wife is horrifically struck and killed by a car on their Caribbean honeymoon. In desperation he gives into his grief and listens to a mysterious suggestion from a morgue janitor that he could have his wife "cured of death." Against all of his reservations and common sense he feels he has nothing left to lose, but what he finds is that there are unnatural things worse than death.
Citizen Dead (The Harvest Series #1) by Kevin Anthony
Following a catastrophic chemical spill, the dead rises - they’re hungry and demand equal rights.
Twenty-two-year-old Roam Stephens and the prideful citizens of Moone Crest find themselves defending their small mountain town against a mob of the dead. The existing grudges, romances and ambitions of the living ones sow tension as they attempt to unite against a common enemy. As easy as picking a side seems, some are quick to form alliances against their own kind. From polluted coast to coast, the political and brute struggle amongst the cohabited lands of the living and the dead, rages on. For Roam, the battle line blurs after being contaminated and he begins to questioning whether he’s alive or dead.
Lastly, I have to recommend Rhiannon Frater's newly released Anthology of shorts (which granted I'm only partway through but it's been so great already I have no doubt the rest will be as well).
Zombie Tales from Dead Worlds by Rhiannon Frater
…ZOMBIES, INFECTED, DEADERS, BLIGHTERS…
Zombie Tales from Undead Worlds contains three exhilarating short stories and three white-knuckle novelettes set in alternate versions of an Earth inhabited with frightening variants of zombies to haunt your waking hours and fill your nightmares.
Out of curiosity, Have you read any of these yet?
If yes, Which one has been your favorite thus far?
