Zurvival Saturday (131) Movie Review: Zedd (2014) #크로스진

Image
Hey ya'll, I'm back this week with a Movie Review for the Japanese film, Zedd.  I came across this film because it stars the group Cross Gene #크로스진 and frankly my curiosity was piqued even further when I saw they had created and starred in a Zombie film. Genre: Thriller, Horror, Zombies Director: Teppei Nakamura Country: Japan Run Time: 54 Minutes 6 youngsters have to survive in the world populated with zombies. They attempt to fill their time with music, play and dancing... But, one day, one of them is contaminated so they have no choice  but to find an antidote. *Small Spoilers Below As some of you may know I am a huge Kpop fan. Recently I've been branching out from the big 3 groups (those coming from SM,YG and JYP) and trying to find smaller but still amazingly talented groups to follow as well. Enter: Cross Gene #크로스진. I found them by chance through my subscriptions on Youtube as they had just premiered a video called...

Zurvival Saturday (128) Movie Review: Train to Busan

Image
Hey ya'll, I'm back this week with a Movie Review for the South Korean film, Train To Busan. This is a film I've wanted to see since first hearing about it at the beginning of Summer and this week I finally had the chance! Genre: Thriller, Horror, Zombies Director: Yeon Sang-ho Country: South Korea Run Time: 118 Minutes Sok-woo and his daughter Soo-ahn are boarding the KTX, a fast train that shall bring them from Seoul to Busan. But during their journey, the train is overrun by zombies which kill several of the train staff and other passengers. While the KTX is shooting towards Busan, the passengers have to fight for their lives against the zombies. (Taken from IMDb ) *Small Spoilers Below Train to Busan was one of my most anticipated Horror films of 2016. Not only were the clips being released actually terrifying but the buzz around the Internet was positive as well. Needless to say I had to see this. Train to Busan takes a very simple plot (zomb...

Zurvival Saturday (127) Bite Sized Reviews: The Renegades by Jack Hunt & DEAD Special Edition Perspectives vol. 1 by T.W. Brown

Image
Hey ya'll, I'm back this week with some more bite sized reviews! I haven't been reading as much in this genre as I usually do. I can't tell you if it is lack of original content or just feeling unispired by all the books cropping up in my recommendations list. Either way, these two passed the curiousity test and worked their way onto my pile. First up, I read  The Renegades Publication Date: December 7, 2015 My Thoughts:  The Renegades wasn't a bad book but I think it tried a bit too hard to be a John Hughes movie set inside a Zombie apocalypse. Whereas I was hoping more for something like Freaks & Geeks (more comedy less drama) meets Zombie Apocalypse. One of the biggest issues I had with the story invovled the Colonel character. I really felt that whole sub plot was unnecessary and that it was included more as an afterthought. The story could have held its own just following the character's as they figured out whether to stay or go but I guess e...

Zurvival Saturday (126): 7 Days to Die

Image
Hey ya'll, this week I wanted to share my latest gaming obsession 7 Days To Die. Holy moly this game is intense. I've only had the game a week (Xbox One) but it's quickly grown on me and become a favorite in the household to play. Now if you haven't heard of this game yet here is some background info: 7 Days to Die is an open world survival video game. The game was released June 28, 2016 by Telltale Publishing. If that name sounds familiar that's because they also produce The Walking Dead video games as well. The games plot is fairy simple. World War 3 has happened, you the survivor must find shelter, food and water, as well as scavenging supplies to fend off the numerous zombies (hinted to be the consequence of nuclear fallout) that populate the area. In this instance that area is Navezgane, Arizona. As of this posting, the game developers are still working on a more complicated plot beyond just the survival aspect to the story so if you're looking...

Zurvival Saturday (125) : Bite Sized Movie Reviews: Humans vs. Zombies & Bad Meat

Image
Hey ya'll, I'm back this week with some bite sized movie reviews! This past week I watched two new to me Zombie flicks on Hulu and Crackle. Both films were special in their own ways. I'm not sure I'd really recommend either but they weren't so bad that I'd write them off entirely as wastes of time. First up, I watched   Humans vs. Zombies Release Date: November 2011 My Thoughts:  This film started out pretty much in B-Movie territory. The acting was subpar and the cinematography looked like it came from a rented camera that might have been abused in the past. The story in and of itself wasn't bad. In short, students on summer break are exposed to a deadly virus that is spread rapidly through direct human contact. Naturally being college kids a LOT of human contact happens thus spreading the virus rapidly. I think this film could have been better if it had a bigger budget but it definitely felt done on the cheap. I also really did not like the charac...

Zurvival Saturday (124) Bite Sized Reviews: Contaminated by Suzanne Robb & Zyborg: Turbo Fiction by Conan De Moe

Image
Hey ya'll, I'm back this week with some bite sized reviews! This past week I read a book called Contaminated by Suzanne Robb.  I've had this novel kicking around on my Kindle for quite some time so figured why not read it. The other story I read was called  Zyborg: Turbo Fiction by Conan De Moe.  The latter is actually a short story that's part of a collection but I'm really hoping the Author writes more in the world in the future. That story has loads of potential. Anyway, on to the reviews! First up, I read Contaminated: A Zombie Survival Novel Publication Date: July 31, 2012 My Thoughts:  Good in places, lacking in others. I really enjoyed the Resident Evil feel of this story.   Close quarters and zombies provide a suspenseful atmosphere and the author plays off that well. However, I think the story was a bit predictable in places such as the traitors were obvious and lacked any surprise and the writing unraveled a bit the closer the story came to its...

Zurvival Saturday (123) Top 5 worst places to survive the Zombie Apocalypse

Image
Have you ever wondered how you'd fare if you woke up tomorrow and the Zombie Apocalypse had actually happened? Yeah, me too. We'd all like to think we'd survive but in all actuality some people will have it much easier than others. As the real estate market likes to say, it is all about location, location, location! Last year the people over at Career Builder tirelessly had their number crunchers pour over data and they came up with a list of the best and worst places to live should a Zombie Apocalypse indeed happen. Not Surprisingly New York City came out on top of that one. If you'd like to read that article you can do so by clicking here . However, while that list certainly was interesting I wanted to broaden my horizons a bit more and include cities from various contents not just those in the US. Using a variety of factors in my decision,  here's what I came up with. 5.) Honolulu, Hawaii - At first glance Hawaii seems like the ideal place to live during a...

Zurvival Saturday (122) Zombies used in Political Advertisements

Image
I was watching campaign ads on TV this morning and it got me thinking what if Zombies put out campaign videos. What would they be like? Would they be entertaining or just creepy? So down the Google rabbit hole I went hoping to find some. Unfortunately, While I didn't find any with mock Zombie presidential candidates, I did find some fun videos showing Zombies used for Political purposes. Up first is a political advertisement from 2013 where a political action committee comprised of Zombies "attacks" San Diego Mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher. Next is an ad from 2010 where Republican John Dennis uses the undead to attack his opponent Nancy Pelosi. Dennis lost to Pelosi in the end but the commercial is pretty horrific nonetheless. Lastly, Here's an ad from 2012 where Joss Whedon tells you that voting for anyone other than Obama will lead to the Zombie Apocalypse. -------------------------------------------------------------- Out of curiosity, Have...
