Blurb Hansel&Gretel Are Dead:
After being infected by the zombie pestilence, Hansel and Gretel are left to die in the woods. Sick and hungry, they find their way to the home of a lonely old woman who happens to be a cannibal. But when Hansel and Gretel refuse to stay dead, the old hag finds she may have bitten off more than she can chew.
Blurb The Zombie Pinocchio:
The gentle but lonely toymaker Geppetto builds the perfect companion from the corpses of children: a son who will never die. But when his creation revolts and begins a campaign of debauchery and murder upon the town's children, he fears he may have unleashed a force of evil beyond his control—The Zombie Pinocchio.

I bought both of these books. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them. Since both of these are short serialized stories I decided to review them at the same time.

Reviews:

Hansel and Gretel Are Dead

I love Fairy tale reinventions and as soon as I stumbled across a Zombie one on Amazon I was sold. Hansel and Gretel in Kevin Richey's retelling stay very close to the Grimm version we all know and love. Unlike the Grimm version Hansel and Gretel are infected with a Zombie virus at the beginning of the story. I don't want to give any of it away but the progression from curious little children to Zombies was fantastic. At the end I was left shouting OMG several times. Yeah this short story was THAT good. I love also that this story includes other well known Fairy Tale figures. Since this is a serialized short all the stories and characters intertwine and that is just really neat to see. If your put off by the $2.99 price tag don't be. I know I'm gushing but this short was really worth it and I hope at the end of the year they come out in a single bound paperback edition. I know I for one will be buying it! I'm giving Hansel and Gretel Are Dead ★★★★.

The Zombie Pinoccio

After finishing Hansel and Gretel are Dead I went on Amazon and saw that The Zombie Pinocchio was FREE so of course I downloaded it. What if Geppetto decided instead of making a son out of wood, he would make a son out of dead children? I was shocked to see the story take this turn but it really worked well. The story starts with Geppetto searching for the perfect pair of hands. I'm not gonna lie this scene was creepy. Imagining Geppetto as a grave robber took some getting used to but thankfully were spared seeing him acquire the majority of the parts so the story isn't dragged down by this. I loved the extra detail of the plague taking place at the same time as the story. It explained nicely how he was able to easily collect a whole boy so quickly. Since I had read Book #2 and already learned Geppetto's fate, I wondered how that would tie in to Book #3. Much to the Author Kevin Richey's credit the short stories were smoothly tied together and it really was cleverly done. I'm guessing we will see Pinocchio pop up again and I can't wait! Zombie Fairy Tales are like a story treasure hunt, so much fun and you never know what your going to find! Overall I was not disappointed and was wowed by another brilliant little short by Kevin Richey. I will be giving The Zombie Pinocchio ★★★★.
