The Sin Collector" follows the life of Liliana, a born Sin Collector. She has spent over 100 years absorbing people's sins so they may rest in peace come death. However when she meets another Collector, one who insists everything she has been taught is a lie, Liliana must make her way from Sunny L.A. all the way to the streets of Madrid. Searching for answers to a question we all share. Why are we here? The friends and enemies she makes along the way only seem to blur the line between right and wrong. Can Liliana fight the Castus, an organization bent on killing off every Sin-Eater? Should she trust her head or her heart when the two most important men in her life are fighting alongside her?
Then there is the worst question of all, who will be left when the dust settles.
I was provided a digital copy of this book to review from the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them. Review: I was really having a hard time writing this review. After rewriting and erasing a dozen times, I decided to just break it down and list the Good, The Bad and The Ugly of The Sin Collector. The Good: Liliana- I really enjoyed her character. She was a lion wrapped in the soft wool of a lamb. Everything about the character is fierce but she has these really tender moments that make her completely likeable. Liliana embraces her destiny and wears it with pride. Overall I really enjoyed her character. The Sin Collecting- While I was a bit disappointed we didn't get to glimpse more of the process, the concept of a sin collector was still cool. George- I enjoyed the lighthearted banter between him and lily at the beginning of the book. Shame we didn't get to see more of him. The Bad: Billy- I hated the fact that I knew exactly where his character was headed. From the moment he popped on the pages, it was obvious and that is really a letdown. I kept waiting for a twist but it never came. Olexander- Don't get me wrong, I liked his character but the fact it seemed like he and Liliana got together at the end creeps me out. I mean the dude raised her since she was six. Maybe if it happened next book, it wouldn't seem so weird but for it to happen so shortly after billy just didn't sit right with me. The Ugly: The Pacing- The pacing in this book was all over the place. Sometimes I felt like the plot was drawing on nonsensically and at other points it felt way to rushed. In my honest opinion, I feel 30 extra pages would of done this book a great deal of good. The Castus- I felt this plot was way to rushed. I also was in disbelief that mere humans could overpower the Collectors so easily. The Author spends so much time building these characters up to near invincible status only to have them overpowered and killed so easily. Overall I really did like the story, while the book certainly has flaws I CAN over look them. I definitely recommend giving this a shot if your a fan of Urban Fantasy and looking for something new and unique. I will be giving The Sin Collector by Jessica Fortunato ★★★★!!! |
