Waiting On Wednesday (46) The Ward by Jordana Frankel
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly blog post hosted by Breaking The Spine. For this week's Waiting On Wednesday I chose *drumroll* The Ward by Jordana Frankel.
Sixteen-year-old Ren is a daredevil mobile racer who will risk everything to survive in the Ward, what remains of a water-logged Manhattan. To save her sister, who is suffering from a deadly illness thought to be caused by years of pollution, Ren accepts a secret mission from the government: to search for a freshwater source in the Ward, with the hope of it leading to a cure.
However, she never expects that her search will lead to dangerous encounters with a passionate young scientist; a web of deceit and lies; and an earth-shattering mystery that’s lurking deep beneath the water’s rippling surface.
Jordana Frankel’s ambitious debut novel and the first in a two-book series, The Ward is arresting, cinematic, and thrilling—perfect for fans of Scott Westerfeld or Ann Aguirre.
Why Am I Waiting
First off, I love that this isn't a trilogy but two books. I just think at this particular time with trilogies so popular its a nice change of pace. Second, this sounds like a blend of Escape From New York, Mad Max, with a bit of Cameron Stracher's The Water Wars thrown in. If successfully pulled off this book could be epic!!!
Out of curiosity, Have you heard of The Ward?If so, Do you plan on reading it? What do you think of the premise? How about that cover?
Let me Know In The Comments Below! I love reading your responses.
That about wraps up my Waiting on Wednesday for this week. Feel free to leave me the link to your Wednesday memes so I can check them out as well!

I love the two books versus three, as well. So many 2nd books in trilogies end up as just filler these days. I have this from Edelweiss and hope to get to it soon. Hope we both love it! :) Thanks for sharing & stopping by!
ReplyDeleteAwesome pick! I've been itching for this one :)

I love that it is just two books. She could have totally milked it for the trilogy and didn't. :)
ReplyDeleteYup! I just hope in a way that they don't decide to trilogy it out later on.

Vixen's WoW!
I like the idea of it being a two-book series, too. The cover reminds me Inception. Also, your quote w/Sam and Frodo? Had to reread it again. Gives me chills.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely quote for sure.
DeleteI'm so excited for The Ward! That's so cool that it's two books. That's so rare in YA nowadays. I adore this cover too! So creepy yet telling.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true it's either stand alone, trilogy, or epic series.
DeleteThis is such a cool cover, I love when authors put cities under water:) Great choice!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WOW.
I love that the cover doesn't have the girl Ren as the main focus but the city itself.
DeleteGreat choice! It looks amazing. :D
