First off lets get the technicalities out of the way. I was given this book to review by the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them. That being said this is my review. This is the first in a planned trilogy of Dark Mother books. The Book Starts with the gruesome (albeit justifiable) murder of a local street gang. Justice the sole survivor of the attack is the one responsible but with no clue how and with sisters to protect he lets everyone believe it was a wild animal mauling or gang infighting that brought about the boys demise. Nobody would believe him anyway. To bad for Justice there was a witness and now 15 years later she wants to find him before time runs out. I am a fan of Dark, Urban, paranormal fantasy and really went into this with high expectations. It was well written and descriptive, even the plot premise was good but...I never felt tied to the characters. It is usually not a good sign when from the very first page I felt indifferent. Do I feel the series has promise? Yes. Is it for me? No probably not. I will be giving this book 3 ★★★ |
