Zurvival Saturday (17) Movie Review: Resident Evil
For This Week's Zurvival Saturday I decided to review the movie Resident Evil.
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Release Date: March 15,2012
Run Time: 100 Minutes
From IMDb: A special military unit fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident.
Review: I really could geek out for hours breaking down all the little bits and pieces of why I find Resident Evil so awesome. Today though I will spare you and instead I will break it down all nice and tidy and list The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Resident Evil. The Good The Umbrella Corporation- Seriously one of the best Evil Corporations ever created. I love how completely plausible a big Pharma like this is as well. I mean who really knows what goes on beyond those doors. Truly scary. The Red Queen- I love this spunky holographic security program. The Red Queen is designed in such a way that "she" has complete control over the inner workings of The Hive so of course when the T-Virus gets out the only logical thing it can do is mass murder everyone inside. It wasn't protocol at that point but rather a personal choice the computer program made, hence why the team is sent into the Hive in the first place. I feel that the Red Queen had no malicious intent killing those trapped inside but honestly thought it was doing what was best to stop spread of infection. The Zombies- I have no complaints about the Zombies in this film. They were terrifying and brilliantly acted. I also loved, loved, loved The Lickers. While the CGI wasn't amazing, the concept is certainly noteworthy. Alice- Due to the amnesia created by The Red Queen's defense system it takes awhile for her personality, memories and ability to come back. I just really love how her story unfolds throughout the movie. Plus killing zombies in a red slitted dress and combat boots HOT!! The Bad Moving through the Hive- I get that when they first entered The Hive all the doors were sealed thus keeping the Zombies trapped inside but c'mon lots of these rooms had huge glass windows and not all of them were filled with water, surely you would of spotted a few trapped within while making your way through and what about people in hallways where did they go?!?!? I guess that always sorta bugged me a bit. Rain- I like Michelle Rodriquez but her portrayal as Rain just did little for me. I never really connected with her character like I did the others. The Ugly Nothing makes it to The Ugly list this time. I was pretty pleased over all with this movie. Final Thoughts I loved everything from the sets, the gags, to the acting itself. I really have no major complaints. I will be giving Resident Evil a solid ★★★★. |
Now for this weeks questions. Have you seen Resident Evil? What did you like about it? Why? Would you work in a Hive like Umbrella's? Leave your answer in the comments below. I love reading your responses.

I have never seen Resident Evil. I think your review tells me that I better get out and see it! No Ugly and very little that wasn't fabulous from what I can tell. Nice!

You should the movies are really good.
DeleteI love the Resident Evil franchise! But, I love zombies so... it's easy to fall for all the movies ~ even the cheesier moments in them all. No, I would never work in a Hive. Creepy!!
ReplyDeleteI think working in one would be weird but owning one as a really awesome bunker would be cool.
