Series: Circus of Curiosities
Every season, the Circus of Curiosities visits the city, bringing with it the most fantastic circus acts that are beautiful, majestic, and death-defying. Every season performers for these acts are chosen from the young men and women in each town, trained, and sent to perform in a televised performance, performed literally to the death. Two performers from Sea Cliff, a beach town at the outskirts of the major city find themselves chosen to be in this Summer's Circus Act. Both must win at any cost, but could they ignore their budding feelings for each other?
I received this book for review from the Author. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for them. Review: Circus Chronicles the lives of Lila Sinclair and her friends as they struggle living in a Post Apocalyptic Dystopian world where the only form of entertainment comes in the form of a traveling circus that appears every couple decades. The Good The Plot- I really liked the concept of this book, it wasn't your traditional Post-Apocalyptic story nor was it quite traditional in the Dystopian aspects either. It was reminiscent of The Hunger Games with the whole young people battle to the death, girl has two boys who both love her yadda yadda....but that being said I actually liked this a bit more since I loved The Circus Of Curiosities aspect as well! The Characters- I really enjoyed Leela she was a great female protagonist. Leela was naive in a way having grown up in a small town but she wasn't dumb by any means. I also really enjoyed the ringmaster Dr. Dex. The Circus Itself- OK so the contest is a fight to the death but c'mon I love how the Author incorporated your traditional circus acts with this. It was really fun to read about. The End- I can't help but squee it was soooo good! No hints from me about what happens, you'll just have to buy a copy and find out for yourself!! The Bad The Cover- I know Don't judge a book by it's cover but in this instance I feel people might. I know I almost did before reading about the awesome premise. It's just my personal opinion but I think covers are important and would like to see this one redone in the future. The Length- I was sorta bummed that this book wasn't a bit longer. I felt rushed in some scenes and an extra page here and there would of really helped. Final Thoughts If you have some time, pick this book up and give it a go. I can see The Circus Of Curiosities being the next great Dystopian series, as long as people like you hear about it. I look forward to reading more from the Author and can't wait to see what happens in the next book. I will be rating Circus Summer by Kailin Gow ★★★★.5 stars!! |

ReplyDeleteI pulled my suitcase out of the backseat of my bug, along with Cannoli's new travel case, a spiffy animal print pet backpack on wheels. When I first saw it, I thought maybe the dog was supposed to wear the backpack, but it turned out the person wore the backpack with the dog in it.
