Waiting On Wednesday (94) Hungry by H.A. Swain

Image
Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly blog post hosted by  Breaking The Spine  where readers showcase which books they are highly anticipating. For this weeks Waiting on Wednesday, I chose Hungry by H.A. Swain. Expected Publication: June 3, 2014 from Feiwel and Friends Add To Goodreads   In the future, food is no longer necessary—until Thalia begins to feel something unfamiliar and uncomfortable. She’s hungry. In Thalia’s world, there is no need for food—everyone takes medication (or “inocs”) to ward off hunger. It should mean there is no more famine, no more obesity, no more food-related illnesses, and no more war. At least that's what her parents, who work for the company that developed the inocs, say. But when Thalia meets a boy who is part of an underground movement to bring food back, she realizes that most people live a life much different from hers. Worse, Thalia is starting to feel hunger, and so is he—the inocs aren’t working. Together they set ...

Review: Ectopia by Martin Goodman

Image
Author: Martin Goodman Genre: Science Fiction, Dystopian, Adult Publisher: Barbican Press Publication Date: June 20, 2013 A modern teenage dystopia set in London. For sixteen years the Earth has baked and no girls have been born. Karen’s the last girl and Steven’s her gay twin. Dad turns their home into a fortress as women take the chance to rule the world. Their eyes are on Steven. Perhaps, with a little medical interference, he could be the saviour of the world. Review Ectopia is a book that can best be described as a mash-up of Children of Men and A Clockwork Orange if set against the 1980's London Punk scene. This book is as bizarre as it is disturbing and yet for some odd reason I couldn't tear myself away from it. Ectopia is a dark book. It is set in a world that's been literally Fucked up by Humanity. For whatever reason no Females be them Animal or Human  have been born for well over a generation and the youngest one left and last born spends her time st...

Movie Review: World War Z

Image
Director: Mark Foster Based On: World War Z by Mark Brooks Genre: Horror, Zombies Studio: Paramount Pictures Release Date: June 21, 2013 IMDB: Click Here United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself. Review I feel like I'm late to the party but I have to say that I really enjoyed World War Z.  In fact, I actually liked the film more than the book. Now I know, that is probably not what many World War Z purists want to hear but I did. Listen I like Max Brooks, I do. His zombie survival guide is great. However, World War Z just didn't do much for me on the whole. I was actually really nervous when the film was announced because of how boring I found parts of that book. Thankfully, I need not fear because World War Z isn't really like the book at all. Sure it shares some elements but it is to put it nicely a very l...
