Zurvival Saturday (88) Waiting on Zombies

This week I want to share with you a few upcoming/ new released Zombie books that I'm excitedly looking forward to reading. As far as I know all of those not yet published are on track to release this year. All titles have been linked to Goodreads in case you'd like to check any of them out further. In no particular order, let's get to the books!

Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle
Released: February 24, 2014

The year is 1851 and pioneers in search of California gold are still afraid to travel on the same route as the tragic Donner party did years before. When the last wagon train to go into the Sierra Nevada mountains fails to arrive at their destination, Eve Smith, an 18-year old half-native girl with immense tracking skills is brought along with the search party, headed by an enigmatic former Texas Ranger, Jake McGraw.

What they find deep in the dangerous snow-covered terrain is a terrifying consequence of cannibalism, giving new meaning to the term “monster.” While the search party is slowly picked off, one by one, Eve must learn to trust Jake, who harbors more than a few secrets of his own, in order to survive and prevent the monstrosities from reaching civilization.

Why I'm Waiting: A Zombie book set in the past with links to the Donner Party uh yeah I'm sold. Plus I've been wanting to read a book by this Author for awhile so why not make it a Zombie one when I do.

 dEaDINBURGH by Mark Wilson
Released: March 10, 2014

Edinburgh, 1645:
The bubonic plague rages. In a desperate attempt to quarantine the infected, the city leaders seal the residents of Mary King's Close in their underground homes.

2015:
Mary King's Close is reopened, unleashing a mutated plague upon the city residents.
The UK government seals the entire city. Declaring it a dead zone they seal the survivors inside alongside the infected. dEaDINBURGH is declared a no man's land, its residents left for dead and to the dead.

2050:
Joseph MacLeod, born onto the cobbles of the Royal Mile and stolen from the clutches of the infected is determined to escape the quarantined city. Under the guidance of former marine Padre Jock, he leaves the confines of the city centre and hones his archery and free-running skills.
Alys Shephard, born into an all-women farming community believes a cure lies in the south of the quarantined zone. The finest combatant in the dead city, Alys burns with anger. The anger of an abandoned child.

Something much worse than the infected waits for them in the south, in the form of a religious cult led by a madman named Somna who collects gruesome trophies and worships the dead body of a former celebrity. Added to this the enigmatic Bracha, a supreme survivalist and sadistic former Royal with his own agenda, stalks the teenagers.

Why I'm Waiting: I actually just picked this one up a few days ago but haven't started it yet. I have a semi-unhealthy fascination with the Black Plague and read pretty much every story I come across with a plot set during that time. Naturally, I was excited to see a story crossover from Plague to Zombies. If done well it could be a really great story.

Strange and Ever After
by Susan Dennard
Releasing: July 22, 2014

In the conclusion to the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a roaring—and addictive—gothic world,” Eleanor Fitt must control her growing power, face her feelings for Daniel, and confront the evil necromancer Marcus...all before it’s too late.

Why I'm Waiting: Simply put, I'm a fan of this series and can't wait to see how she ends it.

Confessions of the Very First Zombie Slayer (That I know Of) by

The world is Cassie Fremont’s playground. Her face is on the cover of every newspaper, she has no homework, no curfew, and no credit limit, and she spends her days traveling the country with her friends, including a boy who would flirt with death just to turn her head. Life is just about perfect—except that those newspaper headlines are about her bludgeoning her crush to death with a paintball gun, she has to fight ravenous walking corpses every time she steps outside, and one of her friends is still missing, trapped somewhere in the distant, practically impassable wreckage of Manhattan. Still, Cassie’s an optimist. More prone to hysterical laughter than hysterical tears, she’d rather fight a corpse than be one, and she won’t leave a friend stranded when she can simply take her road trip to impossible new places to find her, even if getting there means admitting to that boy that she might just love him, too. Skillfully blending effective horror with unexpected humor, this diary-format novel is a fast-paced and heartwarming read.

Why I'm Waiting: I've actually been given a copy of this one to review and plan on tackling it very soon. However, I'm really curious to see how Cassie's celebrity status fits in the whole Zombie Apocalypse. Sounds like it should be fun.

Deadland's Harvest (Deadland's #2) by

It has been one hundred days since the zombies claimed the world. Cash, along with forty-two survivors, have found safety in the secluded and well-guarded Fox National Park. The leaves are changing colors, a beautiful, brutal reminder that winter is coming. As the survivors prepare for freezing months without electricity and not enough food, they learn of massive zombie herds several hundred miles north…and headed their way.

To save the park, Cash must find a place for the survivors to hide from the migrating herds. If Cash and her small band of volunteers don’t succeed by winter, the Fox survivors just may become Deadland’s Harvest.

Why I'm Waiting: I won the first book in this series last year and was fascinated how it combined the seven deadly sins with the Zombie apocalypse. I can't wait to see where the story heads in the sequel.
