Zurvival Saturday (88) Waiting on Zombies

Image
This week I want to share with you a few upcoming/ new released Zombie books that I'm excitedly looking forward to reading. As far as I know all of those not yet published are on track to release this year. All titles have been linked to Goodreads in case you'd like to check any of them out further. In no particular order, let's get to the books! Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle Released: February 24, 2014 The year is 1851 and pioneers in search of California gold are still afraid to travel on the same route as the tragic Donner party did years before. When the last wagon train to go into the Sierra Nevada mountains fails to arrive at their destination, Eve Smith, an 18-year old half-native girl with immense tracking skills is brought along with the search party, headed by an enigmatic former Texas Ranger, Jake McGraw. What they find deep in the dangerous snow-covered terrain is a terrifying consequence of cannibalism, giving new meaning to the term “m...

Top Ten Books I Regret Not Reading in 2013

Image
Any of us who read books on a consistent basis will eventually find ourselves in the same predicament. So many books, so little time. We try to get them all in each year but sometimes it just doesn't happen. This year my list wasn't nearly as large as it was last year at this time  but I still nonetheless had to whittle it down to the Top Ten that I really regret not reading this past year. As always I still plan to read these books in the future and you will probably see me talking about them quite soon but for now they either sit on a desk or Kindle neglected. So sorry you lovely books but I am only one person who just has not enough hours in the day to get to you all.  Anyway enough of my rambling.... In no particular order here are my Top Ten Books I Regret Not Reading In 2013: 10.) The Program by Suzanne Young I've said it what feels like a billion times but I really need to read this one. I meant to but whenever I went to purchase a copy I saw another bo...

Zurvival Saturday (75) Indie Spotlight

Image
This week I wanted to share some Zombie books that aren't quite mainstream yet but should be! These Indie Gems feature everything from Traditional Shufflers on a quest for brains to the untraditional  with extraordinary powers who can command the hordes of Undead. This is a small sampling of ones I'd recommend picking up. Alice in Deadland by Mainak Dhar Publication Date: November 19, 2011 Civilization as we know it ended more than fifteen years ago, leaving as it's legacy barren wastelands called the Deadland and a new terror for the humans who survived — hordes of undead Biters. Fifteen year-old Alice has spent her entire life in the Deadland, her education consisting of how best to use guns and knives in the ongoing war for survival against the Biters. One day, Alice spots a Biter disappearing into a hole in the ground and follows it, in search of fabled underground Biter bases. What Alice discovers there propels her into an action-packed adventure th...

Halloween Favorites!

Image
Happy Halloween all you Goblins and Ghouls. I figured it being Halloween and all that I'd share some of my Favorite Scary books and movies with you.  I reach for these year after year and although I know them by heart by now no Halloween Season is complete without reading or viewing them.  In no particular order here is a small sampling of some of my Favorites! I loved these Scary Stories as a kid and still love the to this day. They were actually scary and even now I still get tingles up the back of my neck reading it. Just make sure if you buy the book it is an older edition cause the newer ones don't have those super creepy illustrations in them that made me fall in love with the book in the first place. Let's face it half of Stephen King's body of work could be on this list but the one that has stuck with me the longest and to this day has the ability to scare the crap out of me is IT. The character of Pennywise is brilliant don't get me wrong but...

Random Thoughts: The Evolution of the Vampire Genre From Scary to Sexy

Image
Earlier today while browsing my recommend reading lists I noticed something disturbing, almost every single Vampire novel recommended to me was similar to Twilight. Girl likes boy, boy struggles against wanting girl yadda, yadda. I found it odd I was recommended these type of stories when I so clearly favored my Vampires dark, broody and deadly. When did Vampires turn from scary (as seen below) 30 Days Of Night To something that resembles this: Aidan- Being Human US You thought I'd put a picture of Edward up, admit it. While it certainly would be easy blaming Twilight for this shift from scary to sexy the trend started way before those books were ever conceived from the mind of Ms. Meyer. So why the switch? The answer is quite simple really. Society demands it. Where Vampires used to be something to fear, in today's society we'd like to understand and humanize them. No longer villains today's vampires are tortured souls in need of redemption (Buffy/Angel), Moral be...
